The Black Dagger Brotherhood’s most despised shellan is actually pretty amazing
When reading reviews of J.R. Ward’s crack-tastic Black Dagger Brotherhood series, you’ll find a lot of love for the character of Brian “Butch” O’Neal, the Boston cop-turned-vampire warrior sometimes known as the Dhestroyer. You’ll run across a certain amount of mourning over the fact that he never truly consummates his epic bromance with the Brother Vishous, his best friend and roommate. But you’ll also see a surprising amount of dislike, distaste, and plain old vitriol directed at Butch’s shellan, Marissa.
“Coward,” they say. “Wimpy spineless doormat.” “Pathetic.” “Simpering spoiled rich bitch.” “Bland.” “Weak.” “Weak.” “Weak.”
And I respond: Wait, what? What are you talking about? Is everybody taking crazy pills? Marissa is amazing!
